STELAR Project

The National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (UoA)

The National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (UoA) participates in STELAR with the Artificial Intelligence team  of the Dept. of Informatics and Telecommunications. The team has a strong background in AI (knowledge representation, constraint satisfaction, deep learning), Databases (especially spatial and temporal databases), Earth Observation, and AI and the Law.

In the last 10 years, the team has attracted more than 5 million euros in funding from the European Commission to work on applying AI techniques to Earth Observation. Prof. Manolis Koubarakis, who leads the team, is a well-known researcher in AI, a EurAI Fellow and the current President of the Greek Society for Artificial Intelligence. He has published more than 200 papers that have been highly cited (7092 citations and h-index 44 in Google Scholar).

Role in the project

UoA will lead the work in WP3, offering state-of-the-art, industrial-strength tools for schema mapping, ontology alignment and entity matching to address semantic interoperability and data linking challenges, given its extensive experience and expertise in geospatial and spatio-temporal linked data.
