STELAR at EBDVF 2023: Intro to Knowledge Graphs for Sustainable AI Impact
On Friday, October 27, attendees of the European Big Data Value Forum (EBDVF) in Valencia, Spain will be treated to an interesting talk. The topic will concern the increasing chatter around knowledge graphs, in a session titled “Knowledge Graphs for Sustainable AI Impact”.
Making the Most of AI Through Data
To make the most of AI’s potential, we need to be able to securely access data. Data ecosystems such as data spaces and data lakes aid us in this endeavour. And a crucial component that aids the ecosystems themselves is the use of Knowledge Graphs.
First, a brief reminder on the definition of Knowledge Graphs. Knowledge Graphs turn data into machine-understandable knowledge. A Knowledge Graph is a flexible, reusable data layer that helps answer complex queries from different data silos. It improves semantic data discovery and interoperability, and increases the quality of data. The data is also organised as graphs. The power of Knowledge Graphs lies in the fact that they easily adopt new knowledge, accept new data, requirements, etc.
More specifically, there have been recent advancements in building, maintaining, and querying knowledge graphs. This impacts several aspects of data science for the better:
- Data management
- Data governance
- Data sharing and exchange
- Advanced data analytics and recommendations
The planned session at EBDVF will tackle the novel methods for handling large-scale Knowledge Graph. Specifically, it will cover ways of creating them, maintaining them, and using them to interconnect different data together. Moreover, several talks will take place, regarding technological advancements in Knowledge Graph development. The use of Knowledge Graphs and semantic service will also be covered and presented through sustainable business cases, including applications in the agrifood sector and digital marketing.
Renowned EU Project Taking Part in Knowledge Graph Session
Several projects tackling European research and innovation will take part in the Friday session scheduled from 09:30 to 11:00. The STELAR project, enRichMyData, DataCloud and GraphMassivizer are organising the sub-event.
Following the introductory talks on the development and use of Knowledge Graphs, a panel of technology and business experts will dive into the burning question: What roles Knowledge Graphs play in AI development?
One of the technology experts who will be presenting is Manolis Koubarakis from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and member of the STELAR project consortium. Prof. Koubarakis will be explaining the topic of Knowledge Graphs for FAIR and AI-ready Data Lakes through a captivating presentation.
The technology expertise aspect of the session will be rounded up by Peter Haase, from Metaphacts and Matteo Palmonari from University Milano Bicocca, as well. Experts covering the business value of Knowledge Graphs will be: Fernando Perales from JOT Internet Media and Peter Haase from Metaphacts.
The session will be closed by a 30-minute panel discussion. Find more about the session on the Programme of EBDVF’s 2023 edition.
STELAR’s Link to the Renowned EBDVF
STELAR is a 3-year project co-funded by the EU. It focuses on turning raw data lakes into knowledge lakes by developing a Knowledge Lake Management System (KLMS). The system in question is actually a data management system consisting of a platform and set of tools fit for today’s agrifood needs. The planned KLMS will support and facilitate a holistic approach for FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable) and AI-ready (high-quality, reliably labelled) data. This is where Knowledge Lakes come into question, as they are a key for this holistic approach.
Register to attend EBDVF 2023 if you are interested in the topics covered, and follow STELAR’s Blog for future updates about the state of the agrifood data space.
