The Final Year: Delivering on Our Vision
As we enter the final year of the STELAR project, our focus is on showcasing our results and making our achievements more accessible to those who can benefit from them. Through tech briefs, Open Days, workshops, blog posts, and podcasts, we are highlighting how our innovations support data-driven decision-making in agriculture.
Looking ahead, we are preparing a series of activities to further engage with stakeholders, share insights, and drive discussions on the future of AI and data in smart farming.
STELAR Tech Briefs: New Insights from Our Latest Research
Starting this year, we have been working on a series of tech briefs, offering insights into the technologies our team is developing. This series features work from Athena Research Center, Bundeswehr University Munich, and the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, covering topics such as:
- Making sense of complex tabular data
- Handling missing values in time series
- Mitigating class imbalance in machine learning
- Reducing bias in crop classification
- Streamlining data integration with deep learning and natural language processing
- Enhancing user interaction with the STELAR Knowledge Graph through STELAR-QA

Listen Now: New Episodes of the STELAR Podcast
After a brief holiday break, we’ve returned this year with fresh insights from the world of smart agriculture!
- Episode 6: In our first episode of the year, we explored the world of Large Language Models and Generative AI. Petros Skoufis, Data Science Researcher at Athena Research Center, discussed the challenges of designing STELAR’s architecture, data catalog, and knowledge graph. The conversation also covered the complexities of data quality and the role of AI in advancing smart agriculture.
- Episode 7: Our next guest was Ian Makgill, a public procurement expert, who talked about his work with Spend Network and the enRichMyData project. He shared insights on data accessibility, structuring data, and the role of data sharing in improving procurement transparency and decision-making.

Join Our First Virtual Open Day
As STELAR technology takes shape, now is the time to introduce Open Days to showcase real-world applications demonstrated by the project’s Pilots, and to foster discussions on digital solutions in agriculture.
Our first Virtual Open Day will be held on 26 March, starting at 2pm (CET), in collaboration with our consortium partners Abaco, who are leading the Pilot “Timely precision farming interventions.”
During the session, we will also examine how technological innovation can provide tangible support to businesses in the sector, offering advanced tools and strategies that are adaptable to organisations of any size.
As part of this discussion, we will explore how Torrevilla Winery, a historic vineyard, is enhancing its production with smart solutions. This will be a valuable opportunity to engage with experts and explore the new possibilities technology brings to the industry.
There is still time to secure your place!
NOTE: the majority of the event will be held in the Italian language.

Tailored IP Strategies: Protecting Project Results Effectively
On February 3rd, the STELAR project held its internal Intellectual Property (IP) workshop. Led by Tatjana Knežević, Head of Exploitation at Foodscale Hub, the session focused on IPR management activities as the project enters its final year.
Key topics included:
- STELAR’s IP protection needs
- Common & alternative protection methods
- Strategic next steps

Join Us for the Expert Workshop on AI in Agriculture
The next period will be filled with various interesting events. For start, our coordinator, Dimitris Skoutas from the Athena Research Center, will be attending the Expert Workshop – AI in Agriculture: Seizing Opportunities, Overcoming Challenges, Mitigating Risks, and Data.
Organised by the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Communications Networks, Content and Technology (DG CNECT) and Directorate-General for Agriculture and Rural Development (DG AGRI), this online event will take place on 27 March 2025.
The workshop will explore the role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in agriculture, focusing on its applications, opportunities, and the barriers to its effective use in the sector. Key discussions will centre on AI-driven innovation, access to data, and the pathways to bring AI solutions to market.
